So you’re ready to get down to the nitty-gritty. Excellent!
At this stage, the components of your story will be mostly set, and it’s time to start polishing. We’ll look at your manuscript on a micro level, focusing on individual paragraphs and sentences, even words. More specifically, we’ll work on:
- Sentence and Paragraph Structure. We’ll make sure your sentences move well and that they’re appropriately varied in length and style. This may include combining or expanding certain sentences, as well as removing redundancy and inappropriate wordiness.
- Dialogue. Here we’ll make sure that characters speak in a way that is appropriate to the era, setting, circumstances, and themselves. We’ll make sure dialogue is short when it needs to be and wordy when it needs to be.
- Word Choice. This is really the meat of your writing, so rather than change words I will provide alternatives to consider (example: “ran” > “fled,” “sprinted,” “charged”).
What to Expect:
As far as what this will look like in terms of what you’ll get back, well, the easiest way to find out is simply to send me a sample of your work (1000 words) and let me send you back a line edit, free of charge! And if you have any other questions, just let me know.
